At Toowoombells, we are always looking for new members to join our community of handbell musicians.

Bell’ementary – for beginning ringers

If you're new to handbells, our Bell’ementary group is the perfect place to start. This beginner group focuses on developing basic skills in handbell ringing, rhythm and music reading. It's a fun, supportive environment where you can learn and grow as a musician. No prior experience is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm!

Toowoombells (Main Ensemble) – for advanced ringers

To join our main ensemble, Toowoombells, we ask that you have a strong ability to sight-read music. We perform a variety of pieces, from classical to popular, and the group requires a good understanding of musical notation and rhythm to keep up with our performances. The bells are laid out on foam-covered tables and a variety of techniques are used to pluck, mallet, dampen on table, ring or shake the bells from there. If you're an experienced handbell musician, this is the group for you!
 

Bell’Amore – a smaller, intimate group
We also offer places in Bell’Amore, our smaller ensemble, to capable ringers who want to experience ringing bells without the use of tables. As a much more mobile group, Bell'Amore often performs for smaller gatherings or specialised community and corporate events.
 

Flexible participation
We operate on a term-by-term basis, so you can choose to ring with the choir all year, or just join rehearsals for a particular term which usually ends with a major concert event. Whether you want to commit to the full range of performances or just one or two, the choice is yours.
 

What we provide
We supply all the necessary equipment, including bells, gloves and music—so all you need to bring is your passion for music and a willingness to learn with the group!

Rehearsal information

Rehearsals for all groups take place at different times on Thursday nights, making it possible to participate in more than one group. Whether you're starting out or have experience, we’ll help you improve your skills and have fun along the way!
